Inside this issue: Citynet purchases Veritech Consulting of Morgantown, Business of The Year! Harrison County Chamber Recipient, Summer Blues: Child Safety on the internet, Our Finest Asset

Citynet Grows!

Jim Martin, President/CEO of Citynet announced that a formal agreement has been reached for Citynet’s purchase of Veritech Consulting Group of Morgantown!

Veritech and its current owner, Craig Behr, are not strangers to the Citynet family. "Craig and his group have partnered with us on a number of projects in the past and it became clear to both of us that working as one, we could accomplish much more" Mr. Martin said. "In the past, Citynet had all the support a company would need on "our" side of the network. In the future, we'll be able to offer customers full service support. Now, Citynet is truly a one-stop-shop, from circuit to desktop…connectivity, voice, data, internet, network safety and monitoring, network managed services, web design and hosting, and computer support for the office desktop, we can do it all" said Frank Boscarillo, Chief Operating Officer of Citynet’s Retail Division.

Veritech will become Citynet and will continue to be based in Morgantown as a self-standing organization within Citynet's Retail Division. Craig and his staff will join the Citynet team and work to expand our customer opportunities in all markets served by Citynet.

"This will allow my group to strengthen our desire to expand beyond northern West Virginia. Now we can serve customers in all of West Virginia and Eastern Ohio - along with Citynet. This is a perfect compliment to Citynet and will greatly improve our mutual support of our customers" according to Craig. Veritech Consulting Group specializes in providing state-of-the-art network monitoring and a complete suite of managed services products for today’s business owner. Their main focus is IT and Network Consulting. Veritech Consulting Group strives to be a total solution provider for information technology. Their services include: Computer Hardware and Software Sales, Computer Repair and Maintenance, LAN/WAN Design and Implementation, Network Security, Remote Access and IP Telephony. Veritech Consulting Group is SBA HUBZone Certified.

The acquisition of Veritech Consulting will accelerate Citynet to a new level of customer support and allow us to fulfill our long stated mission of being THE niche communications company in the markets that we serve and will allow us to continue to expand our customer products and services throughout West Virginia.

"Together, the new Citynet will also be able to support all Cisco products and services in a more efficient manner. Citynet has long standing and advanced Cisco Certifications and is ranked as a Cisco Premier Partner. Products supported include Cisco’s VoIP (Advanced Unified Communications specialization), products and services, and network security (including Cisco Self-Defending Network®). Citynet can provide a much broader base of services to the small business as well our large enterprise clients from the desktop to the types of circuits they need", said Luther Toney, CTO of Citynet’s Retail Division.

Toney further says, "Also, with security on everyone’s mind we can provide a complete array of services to not only provide security for their LAN and WAN, but we can also provide the many flavors of phone service (tradition Key system, PBX to a VoIP enabled PBX, Digital Phone service or a hosted VoIP PBX). Citynet can now offer the type of service that best meets the client’s needs, including aggressive financing options for our customers interested in Cisco products and services."

Summer Blues (2)

Last June, we featured an article that received a lot of comments from our readers on our story regarding children's safety while surfing on the internet. It begs repeating with some new information included:

Summer blues? Well not for the school kids, but parents have a different set of problems when the kids are home from school for the summer. It is difficult to supervise a child’s usage of the internet when everyone is at home, but more and more frequently, both parents are in the work force now; making the internet a large concern to many.

To help overcome this situation, Citynet strongly advises parents to educate themselves and your children about the very real dangers lurking on the internet. We’ve all read about child stalkers and smut peddlers. Everyone with young children at home needs to have some form of internet site blocking! Also, there are some excellent websites dealing with child internet safety. SafeKids.com is an excellent source for information. You can find them at: http://www.safekids.com/child_safety.htm Also, here’s a great site funded by a U.S. Department of Justice grant to keep children safe while using the internet. http://www.isafe.org/

What many do not realize is that information sharing is equally dangerous. Children do not understand that they should limit the amount of information that is available about them on the internet. It’s nice to share pictures, birthday’s, and other harmless information with real friends and family, but parents need to take heed to avoid this information from being posted on general chat rooms or meet and greet sites. This can lead to problems for the entire family.

With summer here, we at Citynet wish everyone a very happy and safe summer. Just as a parent would protect their children with sun block…you have to protect them online, too.

Our People

This month we are profiling two more superb employees of Citynet. The first is a well deserved promotion in our Development Department and the second is a new member of our accounting team.

Matthew Thornton was recently promoted to Vice President – Systems and Development. In his announcement of Matthew's promotion, Retail Division COO, Frank Boscarillo said "Matthew will continue to lead the development of Citynet’s best-in-class Back Office Systems, including the Intranet, iTraxx billing system, Customer Account Manager, Subscriber and Inter-carrier Compensation Billing, and our VoIP Administration".

Matthew is a graduate of Marshall University with a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree in Management and Management Information Systems (MIS). Following graduation, Matthew worked for a consulting firm in Charlotte, NC, and then in Columbus, OH, before joining the Citynet team in 2002." Matthew is based in Bridgeport, WV.
